Ayatollah Khamenei’s legacy is dignity, patriotism and steadfastness: Baghaei

The late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, left behind a legacy of dignity, patriotism and steadfastness for the Iranian nation.

In a Monday post on his X account, Baghaei referred to the massive funeral procession held for Ayatollah Khamenei in Tehran earlier in the day, saying the event was as if “history had paused for a moment to turn another page of its book.”

“Today, Iranians bid farewell to a great leader in the capital of Iran, one whom time has rarely nurtured the likes of,” he said in the Farsi-language post.

The spokesman said Ayatollah Khamenei's legacy would go beyond generations and would be far more than his name and era.

"…it is a heritage of self-belief, dignity-seeking, independence-seeking, patriotism, and steadfastness against the storms of events," he said.

Baghaei said the late Leader's message would withstand the test of time, enabling Iranians to preserve their ideals.

"Bodies are embraced by the earth, but the ideas that call a nation to self-confidence, to safeguarding its independence, and to perseverance on the path of ideals, these do not wear away with the passage of time," he said in the post.

Millions turned up for Ayatollah Khamenei's funeral procession in Tehran on Monday, making it one of the most unprecedented events in the history of Iran and the world.

The procession came more than four months after the late Leader was assassinated in a joint US-Israeli airstrike on his office in Tehran.

People paid their respects to his body, along with those of four members of his family who were martyred in the attack, during ceremonies held in Tehran's Mosalla Mosque since Saturday morning.

Ayatollah Khamenei will be laid to rest on Thursday at the holy shrine of Imam Reza in his hometown of Mashhad, after two days of funeral processions in the central city of Qom and in Iraq.
