Two Royan Institute scientists ranked among world’s top 1% most cited researchers

Dr. Hossein Baharvand (L) and Dr. Faezeh Shekari, Royan Institute's scientists, were included in the latest list of the world's top 1% most highly cited researchers.

Two scientists from Iran’s Royan Institute have been recognized among the world’s top 1% most highly cited researchers based on the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) compiled by Clarivate.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Office of Royan Institute, Dr. Hossein Baharvand and Dr. Faezeh Shekari were honored by Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education after being included in the latest list of the world's top 1% most highly cited researchers.

The ESI recognition evaluates the global scientific impact of researchers through citation performance across various disciplines.

The ranking identifies scientists whose publications have received the highest number of citations worldwide over a rolling 10-year period.

The latest recognition follows another major international achievement for the institute.

In October 2025, five Royan Institute scientists were included in Stanford University’s annual list of the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists, one of the most respected global rankings of research influence.

The five scientists recognized in the 2025 Stanford ranking were Dr. Baharvand, Mohammad Hossein Nasr-Esfahani, Mohammad Reza Baghban Eslaminejad, Reza Omani Samani, and Hamed Daemi.

All were honored for their contributions to clinical medicine and biochemistry and molecular biology.

Founded as one of Iran’s leading biomedical research centers, Royan Institute is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in reproductive medicine, infertility treatment, embryo development, stem cell research, regenerative medicine, and biotechnology.

The institute also develops biological products and recombinant proteins while providing advanced clinical services in infertility treatment and cell therapy.

Over the years, Royan Institute has consistently ranked among Iran’s leading scientific institutions, with its scientists regularly earning places in internationally recognized citation-based rankings, reflecting the institute’s sustained contribution to global scientific research.
