Manhunt underway for suspects after 12 people shot near festival in Ohio
A US shooting incident near a festival venue has left a dozen people injured in Toledo, Ohio.
Authorities said on Saturday that two of the 12 victims in the shooting near Toledo’s Old West End Festival are in critical condition.
The Toledo Police Department said a manhunt for the suspects, who remain at large, is still underway.
It added that its officers responded at around 5:37 p.m. local time (9:37 p.m. GMT) to a report of an incident involving multiple shots near Delaware Avenue and Glenwood Avenue, close to the Old West End Festival venue, where festivities involving music and food are organized among locals annually.
Upon their arrival at the scene, the police officers found a dozen victims suffering from gunshot wounds while the suspected shooters had already fled the scene.
“Many victims have been transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment,” police said in a news release.
Deputy Police Chief Joseph Heffernan said during a news conference that investigators believe the shooting involved at least two people.
Heffernan said the motivation of the suspected shooters is yet unclear. “They were probably shooting at each other.”
Authorities said the victims were mostly in their 20s, but also included one teenager and a 61-year-old.
Gun violence in the United States is recognized locally and internationally as a uniquely American phenomenon.
The US has witnessed more than 160 mass shootings, resulting in an estimated 5,283 gun deaths and 9,494 gun injuries, since the beginning of 2026.
