A conference held at the Imam Mahdi Islamic Center in the Italian capital, Rome, focused on the systematic and deliberate destruction of healthcare systems, facilities, and, personnel, by the Israeli regime in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The initiative featured doctors and veterinarians and was attended by a number of Palestinian women who had fled to Italy from the Israeli onslaught on Gaza and the West Bank.
The Israeli forces have carried out around 800 attacks on health care facilities since October 2023, destroying or extensively damaging 94% of Gaza's hospitals.
Furthermore, more than 1500 health workers have been slaughtered by the regime in the same period.
Israel certainly has not started [sic] bombarding hospitals and medical facilities in 2023.
According to UN records, the destruction of health care facilities by the regime began with the Al Aqsa Hospital in 2013.
However, it must be said that Israel started to target health care infrastructures long before (that).

According to recent WHO estimates, during Israel's genocide in Gaza, of the 172,000 Palestinians who were injured, more than 43,000 suffered life-changing injuries to the limbs, spinal cord, or brain; this includes 10,000 children.
The catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza, caused by the deliberate targeting of healthcare infrastructure and personnel by the Israeli regime, has highlighted a profound challenge to the global medical community.
Most surgical and medical societies worldwide have remained silent or issued vague statements about what one of the world's oldest and most authoritative academic journals, The Lancet, has dubbed "Gaza's healthocide".
Most doctors and medical associations don't take a stand because they are afraid of the repercussions.
This way they become accomplices of Israel.
I urge everyone, I urge all my colleagues to not sit on the fence, to take a stand.
Israel has for long been pursuing a consistent policy of targeting health care facilities and workers.
It is a part of a genocidal strategy.

During the conference, it was also highlighted how Israel has virtually wiped out Gaza's agricultural sector, leaving more than 96% of its cropland damaged or inaccessible and only 7% of agricultural infrastructure functional.
The destruction of each and every livestock farm in Gaza translates into a family that can no longer provide for itself.
It is a loss that cannot be replaced.
Collapsing food systems always bring diseases and infections.

The Rome conference at the Imam Mahdi Islamic Center also served as an opportunity to raise funds for the besieged Palestinians.
