Becoming strong not a slogan but a 'vital necessity': Leader's advisor

A senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, says the country is repeating history by gaining strength through steadfastness against enemies.

Mohammad Mokhber said in a post on his X account on Monday that Iran’s history of fighting against foreign aggression during the imposed Iraqi war of the 1980s shows the country can impose its conditions on enemies through "active resistance."

Mokhber’s post came to mark the Day of Resistance of the city of Dezful, his hometown located in southwest Iran, which was the target of massive Iraqi aerial bombardments in the early 1980s.

He said in the Farsi-language post that May 25 "embodies the active resistance of the Iranian nation, a steadfastness not merely for survival, but to impose its will upon the enemy."

The senior politician, who served as Iranian vice president from 2021 to 2024, also said in an essay to mark the occasion that Iran will emerge from the current US-Israeli war of aggression just as the city of Dezful did from the massive Iraqi assaults.

However, Mokhber reiterated that Iran should become stronger, both militarily and economically, to create real deterrence against its enemies.

"Becoming strong is not a propaganda slogan; it is a vital necessity. We must build such power in the defense sector that the thought of aggression is forever banished from the enemy's mind... And we must create such resilience in the economy that sanctions become an ineffective tool,” he said in the essay.

Mokhber’s comments come as Iran continues to face US-Israeli aggression that began in late February and came to a halt as part of a ceasefire on April 8.

Iran has indicated it is ready to counter a resumption of aggression by the US and the Israeli regime, as authorities insist that any potential deal to permanently end the confrontation must respect Iran’s demands and conditions.
