Iran has strongly condemned Saturday's terrorist attack targeting passengers at a railway station in the capital city of the Pakistani southwest province of Balochistan.
Just hours after the blast, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei strongly condemned the terrorist attack.
A multitude of people, including a dozen soldiers on their way to Rawalpindi and six railway staff workers, were killed and wounded in the deadly attack targeting the Quetta railway station.
Baghaei expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased, wishing for a speedy recovery for those wounded.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman voiced solidarity with the people and government of Pakistan, stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as one of the main victims of terrorist attacks, has always been at the forefront of the fight against terrorism.
He said Iran views the fight against the wicked phenomenon of terrorism as its international responsibility.
Tehran "emphasizes cooperation and coordination with neighboring countries, while supporting them in the nonstop fight against terrorist groups."
Balochistan’s Liberation Army (BLA), a militant group in Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the deadly railway station attack on Saturday.
Pakistan has witnessed terrorist attacks and militancy within its borders for decades.
Saturday’s attack took place just as Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir left Tehran after an official visit as part of mediation efforts to end the war between Iran and the United States.
