The political stalemate over Iraq’s premiership appears to be easing, as the coordinating framework moves to name a candidate after weeks of deadlock. But the timing and nature of this decision are raising questions about external pressures and whether Iraq is heading toward a critical and uncertain political phase.
The Coordination Framework has named Ali Al-Zaidi as its compromise candidate for Prime Minister. The agreement comes after multiple rounds of discussions aimed at bridging political differences within the bloc and he was tasked with forming the new government by the president of Iraq Nizar Amedi within a constitutional period of 30 days
