US President Donald Trump snapped at a journalist who questioned him about the manifesto of the suspected gunman of the White House dinner's shooting incident, saying he is not a “pedophile” or “rapist” as called by the suspect.
"I'm not a pedophile," Trump said in an interview with CBS News. "I'm not a rapist. I didn't rape anybody," he added.
He then addressed the host directly, saying, “You should be ashamed of yourself reading that.”
The Saturday shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, with Trump in attendance, injured a Secret Service agent. The suspect, 31-year-old California teacher Cole Thomas Allen, was captured at the scene.
Trump’s remarks came after Allen, in a 1,052-word manifesto published by the New York Post, explained his motives, naming US officials as targets “prioritized from highest-ranking to lowest” while explicitly excluding FBI Director Kash Patel.
In his manifesto, signed Cole “coldForce” “Friendly Federal Assassin” Allen, which was sent to relatives roughly ten minutes before the attack, the gunman described himself as a “half-black, half-white” American citizen and said he acted to hold the government accountable.
“I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes,” Allen wrote.
Allen said he aimed to reduce casualties among security personnel, hotel staff, and guests by “using buckshot.” But he added that he “would still go through most everyone here to get to the targets if it were absolutely necessary,” calling attendees “complicit.”
The gunman listed “rebuttals” to address anticipated criticism, and added that he is neither the person raped in a detention camp nor the fisherman executed without trial.
“I’m not a schoolkid blown up or a child starved or a teenage girl abused by the many criminals in this administration,” he said.
The references appeared to include US strikes on Venezuela-linked boats, the attack on an Iranian girls’ school, immigration enforcement, and the Jeffrey Epstein case.
The injured Secret Service agent is in stable condition. Allen remains in federal custody.
