Tucker Carlson, a well-known American media personality and former Fox News host, has publicly expressed regret for his role in helping Donald Trump win the country’s presidency and misleading people.
In a recent episode of his podcast, co-hosted with his brother Buckley Carlson, Carlson admitted that he unintentionally misled voters by supporting Trump’s campaign.
“I do think it’s like a moment to wrestle with our consciences. You know, we’ll be tormented by it for a long time. I will be, and I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people. It was not intentional. That’s all I’ll say,” Carlson said, in a candid conversation with his older brother.
Once seen as an influential voice of the so-called MAGA movement, Carlson reflected on his past involvement in Trump’s political ascent and emphasised that both he and millions of other Americans who supported Trump bear responsibility for the current state of US politics under the incumbent administration.
In the widely circulated podcast, the former Fox News host also raised doubts about Trump’s temperament and acknowledged that many former supporters, including himself, overlooked clear “signs of low character” when backing Trump’s candidacy.
“The question that immediately presents itself is, what is this? Was this always the plan? You don’t want to be a conspiracy nut, but clearly, there were signs of low character. We knew that. But it didn’t… there are tons of people of low character who outperform their character,” Carlson remarked.

A long-time Trump supporter and aide, Carlson previously wrote speeches for the US president and also campaigned for him.
Earlier this month, Trump attacked Carlson on social media, writing: “Flailing fools like Tucker Carlson, who couldn't even finish college, he was a broken man when he got fired from Fox, and he's never been the same. Perhaps he should see a good psychiatrist!”
The relationship between them has hit rock bottom amid the ongoing US-Israeli war of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which Carlson strongly opposes.
In one of his recent interviews, Carlson said he was “horrified” by Trump’s warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if no deal was reached with Tehran.
“I've always liked Trump and still feel sorry for him, as I do for all slaves,” noting that the president “can't make his own decisions” and remains “hemmed in by other forces,” he said, in reference to the Israeli regime.
Since the US and Israel launched the military aggression against Iran on February 28, Trump has faced growing domestic opposition, including from within the so-called MAGA movement, with figures like Carlson strongly criticizing the illegal aggression.
