Iran’s ministers of science and health have condemned recent military assaults by the United States and the Israeli regime on universities during their ongoing aggression targeting the Islamic Republic.

The Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, Ali Simayi Sarraf, and Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafar-Qandi made the remarks in a joint statement on Monday, which catalogued the assaults that had targeted Iranian universities throughout the aggression that began late last month.

They cited a strike hitting the Faculty of Pharmacy at Shiraz University on March 14 and another one on Isfahan University of Technology that took place 10 days later.

The statement additionally made mention of strikes targeting parts of the Science and Technology Campus and the Veterinary Specialized Hospital Campus at Urmia University and one that hit Tehran’s University of Science and Technology.

“These are only some of the regrettable actions carried out by the American and Israeli aggressors against the sacred precincts of Iranian universities.”

Academic figures targeted

The statement also highlighted that the attacks were not limited to facilities alone. “Beyond targeting university facilities and educational medical centers, academic figures have also been subjected to the brutal actions of the enemies of our homeland.”

“Regrettably, news of martyred academics, including both students and faculty, is received daily from universities across the country.”

The ministers further noted continued attacks on Iranian scientists during the aggression that has picked up where Tel Aviv’s and Washington’s previous unprovoked war on the Islamic Republic left off last June, as far as deadly targeting of the scientists is concerned.

Call for global attention

Concluding their statement, the ministers urged international colleagues to recognize the severity of the attacks.

“As administrators of the scientific institutions in Iran, we call the attention of our colleagues worldwide to these crimes. If these atrocities are not condemned here and now, similar threats will loom over academic environments in other countries.”
