A former United Nations independent expert has condemned US-Israeli “barbaric” military actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which he asserts constitute “the gravest danger to civilization since the Second World War.”
Alfred De Zayas, who served as the UN Independent Expert on the Promotion of a Democratic and Equitable International Order, in a post on X, formerly Twitter, issued the stark warning amid escalating Israeli-American war against Iran.
In a strongly worded statement, De Zayas slammed mainstream media outlets for "selling" this barbarism to the public through their coverage.
He also called out certain European governments over their complicity in the war against Iran through their political and material support for it.
A large crowd of fasting Tehran residents have gathered at Revolution Square to participate in the funeral procession of martyrs assassinated in recent US and Israeli airstrikes.

The former UN official warned that this combination of military aggression, media complicity and European backing "confirms the civilisational collapse" underway.
De Zayas's comments reflect growing international concerns over the scale and intensity of the unprovoked and illegal military campaign, which has now entered its 12th day.
More than 1,300 Iranians have been martyred in the aggression, including the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and some top-ranking commanders.
The former UN expert's condemnation carries particular weight given his previous mandate overseeing global standards for democratic participation and equitable international relations.
