Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has warned that attacks by the United States and the Israeli regime targeting the country have created a considerably dangerous situation for civilians.
Amir Saeid Iravani made the remarks during a UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan on Monday.
He told the council that the situation on the ground had become increasingly serious for civilians since the outbreak the aggression late last month.
“The ongoing war of aggression that began on February 28, 2026, launched by the United States and the Israeli regime against the Islamic Republic of Iran, a war carried out without any provocation or justification, has created a very grave and dangerous situation for civilians,” Iravani said.
He added that the attacks had struck multiple urban centers across the country.
“This war of aggression has included deliberate attacks and targeting of civilians, civilian infrastructure, and densely populated areas, particularly in several major cities of Iran, cities where millions of Afghan nationals also reside,” he stressed.
The remarks came days after the envoy called on the Security Council to take “urgent, collective measures” to stop the unlawful military campaign.
In a letter to the council’s president, Iravani reported six consecutive days of large-scale military strikes targeting civilian infrastructure and populated areas across the Islamic Republic.
According to figures released by the Iranian Red Crescent Society, the death toll has reached 1,332 civilians, including many women and children.
Recently, Iranian officials reported that the latest wave of attacks has focused on sports and recreational facilities.
One of the deadliest incidents involved a missile strike on a sports hall in the southern city of Lamerd in Fars Province during a training session. The attack resulted in the death of more than 18 female volleyball players and left around 100 others injured.
The casualties also included internationally recognized athletes and medalists in sports such as wrestling, judo, and taekwondo.
In Tehran, several major facilities have been targeted, including the 12,000-seat Azadi Stadium and the Be’sat Sports Complex, as well as municipal sports halls and the National Judo Team Training Camp.
Early during the aggression, a girls’ elementary school was targeted in the southern Iranian city of Minab and brutally killed 165, mostly children.
Subsequent attacks on the third day targeted healthcare facilities, including Motahhari and Khatam hospitals in Tehran and Abouzar Hospital in Ahvaz, along with several emergency response checkpoints.
Immediately after the war was initiated by the US and Israel, the Islamic Republic began retaliating by launching hundreds of ballistic missiles and attack drones towards numerous American and Israeli targets throughout the region.
