Russia strongly condemns US-Israeli aggression on Iran, calls for UNSC meeting

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has condemned the “aggressive attacks” launched by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran and called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

Lavrov made the remarks in a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Saturday following the joint US-Israeli attacks across Iran.

During the conversation, Araghchi briefed his Russian counterpart on the latest developments and emphasized the need for decisive global action, particularly by the Security Council, to halt the aggression and hold the aggressors accountable.

Air attacks by the Israeli regime and the United States began around 09:40 a.m. local time in central Tehran and then continued in eastern districts and other parts of the city. Explosions were also heard in several other cities across the country, including Qom, Lorestan, Hamedan, Kermanshah, Karaj, Tabriz, Ilam, and Qeshm.

Citing an airstrike on an elementary school in the southern city of Minab that left dozens of schoolgirls dead, Araghchi called the military aggression a flagrant violation of the core principles of the UN Charter and a crime against international peace and security.

He reaffirmed Iran’s inherent right to defend the country with full force.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced the launch of “Operation True Promise 4,” targeting the Israeli-occupied territories and American bases across the region, including the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, in several waves of missile and drone strikes.
