Completion of corridor projects herald new chapter in Iran-Russia ties: Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, right, meets with Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev in Tehran, February 18, 2026.

President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran says the completion of joint transit corridor projects will mark a “new chapter” and a significant leap in the comprehensive relations between the Islamic Republic and Russia.

Speaking during a meeting on Wednesday with Sergei Tsivilev, the Russian Minister of Energy, President Pezeshkian reaffirmed Tehran’s determination to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement.

The Iranian president highlighted the momentum across multiple sectors, stating that the implementation of agreements in transport, energy, oil and gas, agriculture, food products, and defense and security is progressing at an "optimum pace."

"We are determined to make operational this [strategic partnership] document with power, speed, and precision," President Pezeshkian told the Russian delegation.

He expressed optimism that the expansion of such broad interactions would leave a "positive and lasting impact" on the regional economy.

Countering unilateralism

Characterizing the current Tehran-Moscow relations as "distinguished and expanding," the Iranian president said his frequent meetings with President Vladimir Putin since the start of his administration have resulted in strategic decisions that serve the interests of both nations.

Addressing the geopolitical landscape, Pezeshkian touched upon the unilateralist approaches of certain global powers.

Regional countries, he said, must strengthen relations to a level where "the intervention of extra-regional actors" is no longer required to determine regional affairs.

Moscow’s commitment to strategic ties

The Russian minister briefed the Iranian president on the outcomes of the 19th Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation, which was held earlier on Wednesday.

He said it was a "positive and fruitful" commission.

Tsivilev underscored the depth of the partnership, saying Russia views its relationship with Iran as a top priority.

Tsivilev said the past year was particularly productive for bilateral ties, marked by the consolidation of friendly bonds and the significant development of cooperation.

"Russia will continue its extensive cooperation and communication with Iran," the Russian energy minister said.

"We explicitly state that no one will be able to disrupt the strategic relations between Iran and Russia."
