Iran's defensive readiness

The Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces has declared that the country will never start a war but will not hesitate to firmly defend its security, territory, and vital interests. Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi made the statement in a message marking Air Force Day. He praised the strategic role of the Air Force in maintaining what he called "active deterrence" against enemy threats. He also described the force as a symbol of the army's deep bond with the nation and the establishment. The top Iranian general had warned before that the slightest error by enemies would be a green light for the armed forces to take action. His statement comes amid heightened threats from Washington against the country and a US military buildup in the region.

Gaza humanitarian crisis

Gaza is facing a deepening humanitarian crisis amid a lack of access to medical care and basic services. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the continued closure of the Rafah crossing has sharply worsened conditions amid restrictions imposed by Israel. Only 36 patients have been transferred out of Gaza for treatment, while the crossing has been shut since yesterday, further limiting access to lifesaving care. Officials warn that patients and wounded civilians are dying daily due to their inability to travel. Shortages of medicines and medical equipment have also reached record levels and humanitarian aid remains extremely limited. This comes as UNICEF reports that the situation for Gaza's children remains deadly and highly fragile. The agency noted that children living through airstrikes also have to deal with the collapse of healthcare, water, and education systems.

Russia-Ukraine war

Russia says it has conducted a large-scale military strike on Ukraine in response to what it calls terrorist attacks by Kiev on civilian infrastructure inside the country. In a statement, Russia’s Defense Ministry said the strikes involved long-range, sea- and air-launched precision weapons, including hypersonic missiles and drones. According to Moscow, the targets included energy and transport infrastructure used by Ukrainian forces, as well as facilities involved in the production and storage of drones. The ministry also stated that Russian air defenses shot down 168 Ukrainian drones in 24 hours. Ukrainian officials confirmed strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure, saying the power system was the primary target. The Ukrainian military also announced that it attacked an oil facility in the Saratov region in southwestern Russia.
