IRGC anti-terror operations

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has issued a statement, detailing its operations to counter foreign elements that instigated riots in the country. The IRGC’s Intelligence Organization said it dismantled terror teams in nine provinces. It said security forces identified and arrested 31 terrorist elements who had declared their readiness to cooperate with Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency. The IRGC said it has also detained the leader of a team tied to anti-Iran terror groups before an attack on 2 military and law-enforcement bases. The IRGC added that its preemptive measures targeted armed terrorist elements and their financial, weapons, and intelligence networks.

US anti-ICE protest

Tensions have once again erupted in Minneapolis as police clashed with protesters following the shooting of another unarmed civilian by immigration agents. Smoke and explosions were seen as police shot tear gas to disperse protesters. Demonstrators called for the expulsion of ICE agents from the State of Minnesota. The protest came after another person was shot in the leg by a federal law enforcement officer in north Minneapolis. The victim has been identified as a Venezuelan immigrant. The shooting took place one week after another US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman behind the wheel of her car in a residential neighborhood of Minneapolis during a major deportation operation ordered in the city by US President Donald Trump. Since the fatal shooting, the US has seen mass protests in multiple cities demanding that ICE leave those cities.

Calling for release of kidnapped president

Supporters of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro have held a large-scale demonstration calling for the immediate release of the country’s abducted leader and his wife. The rally was held in the capital Caracas and was organized by the workers’ unions. Protesters condemned Washington’s "interventionist policies." They called on international organizations to take action and end the kidnapping of Maduro and his wife that took place during a US operation on January 3. US officials have accused Maduro of overseeing a cocaine trafficking network linked to international cartels. Maduro has denied the charges, saying the US seeks to justify foreign control over Venezuela’s oil reserves. The US forces abducted Maduro in an operation on January 3.
