Israeli war crimes in Gaza
Israel continues to violate the ceasefire in Gaza, with one of the regime’s latest military strikes hitting a shelter in Gaza City. A funeral has been held for the victims, which included children. The attack killed at least six Palestinians and injured several others. They were displaced civilians who had gathered for a wedding in a school-turned-shelter. Hamas strongly condemned the attack, calling it a brutal crime and a blatant breach of the ceasefire. The movement urged mediators to act on their responsibilities. Meanwhile, a baby boy has become the latest reported victim of the Israeli aid blockade. The baby, who was only 29 days old, died in the south due to the cold and lack of basic necessities. The death toll since the US-Israeli genocide began in Gaza has now exceeded 70,920.
Imran khan sentence
A Pakistani court has sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison each in a corruption case. He has been convicted of under-priced sale of luxury state gifts. It adds to multiple sentences Khan is already serving. The 73-year-old, who was prime minister from 20-18 to 20-22, has been in jail since his arrest last August. He maintains all charges against him are politically motivated. His family has recently raised concerns about his treatment in custody, alleging isolation and psychological strain after weeks of blocked access. Authorities deny any mistreatment, saying that he receives all entitlements due to a prisoner. The ruling comes as supporters of his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, continue to protest his detention.
Russia-Ukraine war
To the Russia-Ukraine war, where Moscow says it has seized new villages in the Donetsk region while Kiev confirms attacking a Russian oil rig in the Caspian Sea. Russian Defense Ministry said its forces had taken control of two villages in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk and northeastern Sumy region. Russia also launched an attack on Ukrainian reservoirs in the southern Piv-DENNY port. The attack comes a day after eight people were killed in a missile attack on the same city. Kiev, meanwhile, confirmed its drones struck an oil rig belonging to Russian energy giant Lukoil along with a military patrol ship in the Caspian Sea. The attack inflicted damage on the drilling platform of the Filanovsky oil rig. This is the third such attack against the Russian oil rig this month.
