Gaza humanitarian catastrophe

The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is deepening amid torrential rains and flooding, as Israeli forces continue to violate the ceasefire agreement, causing more civilian casualties. According to Gaza Civil Defense, the inclement weather has so far claimed the lives of at least 17 civilians, including four children, while nearly 20 residential buildings have completely collapsed. It added that more than 90 residential buildings have partially collapsed, posing a direct threat to the lives of thousands of citizens. Approximately 90 percent of shelters in Gaza have completely submerged due to floods and rainwater. The civil defense noted that in some areas, all tents have been flooded, leaving thousands of families without shelter. The International Committee of the Red Cross also warned that collapsing buildings pose a direct threat to residents’ lives and contribute to the rising number of civilian casualties. It added that thousands of Palestinians are forced to remain inside unsafe buildings because there are no viable alternatives and adequate shelters. Meanwhile another Palestinian was killed by Israeli fire on Wednesday. The death toll from the Gaza genocide since October 2023 is approaching 70,670, with more than 171,150 others injured.

Plight of children in Gaza

An international children’s rights group has released an alarming report on the hardships and suffering that Palestinian children have gone through in Gaza during the current year. Defense for Children International-Palestine said 2025 was a year of genocide, famine, torture, and mass displacement for children in Gaza. It added that existing documents show that the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza has systematically stripped Palestinian children of their basic rights to life, safety, health, and childhood. The group emphasized that despite overwhelming evidence of mass atrocity crimes, world leaders continued to shield Israel from accountability, leaving Palestinian children unprotected. It said Israel has used starvation as a weapon of war, and forcibly disappeared children in Gaza. The rights group emphasized that the existing situation is the result of decades of impunity enjoyed by Israel, which continues to commit crimes against children without facing any consequences.

Venezuela president speech

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has vehemently condemned his American counterpart's latest claims to the Latin American country’s resources and territory. Maduro was speaking in a public speech in the capital, Caracas. His remarks came after President Donald Trump claimed that Venezuela has taken American companies’ oil rights and a lot of oil, and Washington wants them back. In response, Maduro described Trump's allegations as belligerent and colonialist claims. He added that the US wants to impose a puppet government that will not last more than 48 hours. Maduro stressed that Venezuela will never be colonized, and will continue to trade all its products with the world. The Venezuelan president said all the damage that US imperialism tries to inflict on his country only strengthens the nation’s indomitable will to fight.
