Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran is ready to improve relations with Azerbaijan in a host of fields.

In a meeting with Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, in Baku on Monday, Araghchi said the two parliaments play a key role in strengthening relations.

Gafarova also hailed the positive trend in Tehran-Baku relations and said the implementation of joint economic projects and the strengthening of people-to-people interaction in various economic and cultural fields will be influential in that direction.

During the meeting, Araghchi and Gafarova discussed ways to boost interaction between Iran and Azerbaijan by making greater use of the two parliaments’ capacities and holding more consultations between specialized committees and parliamentary friendship groups.

Araghchi confident bilateral agreements will enhance ties

The Iranian foreign minister said he held “constructive” talks with Azerbaijani authorities during his current visit to Baku.

In a meeting with Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev on Monday, Araghchi expressed confidence that the agreements reached in Baku will enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, transportation, transit, energy, water, and cultural tourism.

Mustafayev said the two countries enjoy deep cultural and historical bonds and placed a premium on implementing the agreements reached between the Iranian and Azerbaijani presidents.

He added that the increase in the number of existing flights between the two countries and the acceleration of joint projects along the border were tangible results of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Baku.

He reiterated the two countries’ determination to expand relations in all areas of common interest and expressed Baku’s readiness to increase economic and commercial ties with Tehran.

The Iranian and Azerbaijani presidents signed 7 cooperation documents during Pezeshkian’s visit to Baku in April.

Pezeshkian expressed hope that the agreements will help the two countries make greater strides toward improving ties so that a suitable model of communications will be established in the region.
