Pezeshkian visits Baku as Iran, Azerbaijan look to strengthen ties

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian is in the Azerbaijani capital Baku as the two neighboring countries are strengthening bilateral ties.

Pezeshkian arrived in Baku earlier in the day to hold talks with his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev.

During a ceremony, the two presidents signed 7 cooperation documents as Pezeshkian said his visit to Baku is aimed at strengthening mutual relations.

He expressed hope that the agreements will help the two countries to make greater strides in improving ties so that a suitable model of communications will be established in the region.

The historical and cultural bonds between the Iranian and Azerbaijani people will pave the way for the establishment of a suitable path aimed at improving regional cooperation, Pezeshkian added.

The president noted that he would convey Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s greetings to the Azerbaijani president.

He said the presence of the Iranian delegation in Baku indicates the two countries’ firm determination to consolidate ties and enhance unity and coherence.

Pezeshkian is in Baku at the invitation of the Azerbaijani president. Upon his arrival, the Iranian president was welcomed by Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Abdulla oglu Eyyubov and Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov.

Aliyev, for his part, said participants at the meeting discussed various issues and stressed the importance of expanding relations to serve both nations’ interests.
