Gaza ceasefire violations

Israeli violations of the Gaza ceasefire have intensified, with the regime escalating its drone and missile strikes across the territory. In the latest attacks, over 20 Palestinians were killed in northern and central Gaza. One of the strikes hit a vehicle moving along a busy street in Gaza City, killing 5 Palestinians. In the central city of Deir el-Balah, a separate attack killed 4 Palestinians, including children. A missile strike also targeted the Nuseirat refugee camp, hitting a residential home and killing 4 children. About a dozen Palestinians were wounded in these bombardments. The attacks came without any warning and in continuation of daily Israeli violations of the US-brokered truce. The death toll from the US-Israeli genocide in Gaza since October 20-23 has now risen above 69,730.

UN slams Israel’s attacks on Lebanon

The United Nations has slammed as war crimes Israeli attacks on civilians and civilian sites in Lebanon. The UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions said the aggression represents a serious and dangerous violation of UN Security Council resolution 1701. Morris Tidball-Binz added that the attacks are a direct infringement upon the Arab country’s sovereignty. The UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon has recorded more than 10,000 Israeli air and ground violations since the ceasefire took effect at the end of 2024. During this period, Israel has killed over 330 people and injured more than 940. One of the latest violations was an attack on the southern Lebanese town Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh, which killed a civilian. This was followed by a series of other airstrikes on the country’s east and south.

G20 summit in South Africa

World leaders from the Group of 20 rich and developing economies have broken with tradition and adopted a declaration at the start of their summit in South Africa. In the final document, the organization vowed to ease the burden on developing nations and push for the settlement of armed conflicts worldwide. The adopted declaration also pledged support for lasting peace in Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the occupied Palestinian territories, and Ukraine. It also underscores the urgent threat of climate change, calling it a global priority. The US, which is boycotting the summit, had demanded that no declaration be made, but the summit president, Cyril Ramaphosa, flatly rejected that.
