Britain’s largest fundraising event, Together for Palestine (T4P), brought together celebrities on Wednesday night to raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to collect donations for the Palestinian people.
Dozens of artists, speakers, and activists went to London's Ovo Arena Wembley for the Together For Palestine (T4P) concert.
The event organizer, British artist Brian Eno, gathered dozens of celebrities to deliver an unprecedented night of music, essays, and poems to show solidarity with the innocent people of Gaza.
The Israeli regime launched its genocidal war on Gaza nearly two years ago, killing, injuring, and starving hundreds of thousands of defenseless Palestinians since then.
Dozens of celebrities from various fields -- including Richard Gere, Benedict Cumberbatch, Florence Pugh, Guy Pearce, Ramy Youssef, Damon Albarn, Bastille, PinkPantheress, Hot Chip, Neneh Cherry, Greentea Peng, Albarn, Omar Souleyman and Gorillaz, Eric Cantona, Laura Whitmore, Amelia Dimoldenberg, Paul Weller, Louis Theroux, and others joined the London event.
They said they wanted to reignite a sense of humanity that has seemed dim since the Israeli regime launched the genocidal war in Gaza.
Eno told AFP that no venue in the UK would accept an event with the word “Palestine” in it this time last year. However, “things have changed.”
“Israel thought starving a whole population would be fine with everyone... I think that changed people’s minds,” Eno noted.
Last month, the UN officially declared a famine in Gaza, blaming “systematic obstruction” of aid by the Israeli regime as the cause of the famine. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday confirmed that “genocide is occurring in Gaza”, again blaming the criminal Israeli regime.
Speaking at the 4-hour event, Palestinian journalist and human rights advocate, Yara Eid, reminded the world that 270 journalists had sacrificed their lives trying to tell the news of the ongoing Israeli atrocities in Gaza.
With tickets at £70 ($95) each at a venue with a 12,500-capacity, British actress, activist, and presenter Jameela Jamil announced the show had raised £1.5 million ( $2 million) by 10 pm.
