Iran rejects Australian allegation
Iran has strongly rejected the recent accusation of anti-Semitism made by Australia, calling the claim unfounded and politically motivated. Baghaei said that such allegations are a form of deflection used to justify anti-Iranian policies. He emphasized that the decision appears to be influenced by domestic developments in Australia, noting that in the past two weeks, mass demonstrations have been held in Australia in protest at the Israeli genocide in Gaza. He added that the move against Iran is, in fact, a move against diplomacy. The remarks come in response to Australia’s decision to expel Iran’s ambassador, accusing Tehran of being linked to anti-Semitic arson attacks in Sydney and Melbourne.
Genocide in Gaza
Israel’s air and artillery strikes keep hammering Gaza, killing and injuring more people. Dozens of Palestinians have lost their lives in fresh attacks across the besieged strip since dawn. One of the latest strikes targeted a warehouse in the city of Deir al-Balah, killing two people and injuring a number of others. Seven Palestinians also lost their lives after the Israeli bombing of a residential building in the Al-Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City. Elsewhere in central Gaza, casualties were recorded after Israeli forces once again attacked aid seekers near the Netzarim corridor. Casualties were reported in southern Gaza as well. The death toll from the US-Israeli genocide since October 2023 has topped 62,800, with over 158,600 others injured.
Israeli protests
Norway’s wealth fund, which is the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund, says it has divested from US construction equipment firm, Caterpillar, and five Israeli banks. The decision is made due to their involvement in Israel’s human rights violations by destroying Palestinian property. The Norwegian fund said bulldozers manufactured by Caterpillar are being used by Israeli authorities in the widespread unlawful destruction of Palestinian property. It added that the US company has failed to implement any measures to prevent such use. The fund also said it has withdrawn from five Israeli banks for financing the construction of settlements in the occupied West Bank. The divestment comes as calls are growing worldwide to boycott Israeli-affiliated entities.
