Australia-Israel tensions
Canberra has lambasted Israel for its decision to revoke the visas of Australian diplomatic representatives to Palestine. Israel’s move to revoke the visas for Australian diplomats comes after Canberra on Monday canceled the visa of a far-right Israeli politician whose party is within the coalition of Prime Minister Netanyahu. The Israeli move has also been condemned by the Australian foreign minister. Penny Wong described the decision as an unjustified reaction, saying Netanyahu’s cabinet is further isolating Israel on the international stage. Australia and Israel have been at loggerheads since Canberra announced it will recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September.
