Hezbollah steadfastness

The Hezbollah Secretary-General says the Lebanese resistance won’t lay down its arms until the Israeli aggression and occupation end. Naim Qassem denounced the Lebanese government for its decision to disarm Hezbollah, saying no one can take the resistance’s legitimacy. He noted that the Lebanese government is implementing the US order and doing a favor to Israel, adding that the government will be responsible for any possible internal crisis, sedition and havoc. Qassem also said opinion polls show that the majority of Lebanese people support the resistance in their country. Regarding Palestine, the Hezbollah chief criticized the US for supporting Israel’s war on Gaza, adding that Palestinians will emerge victorious. He was speaking in a televised address on the occasion of Arba’een. The occasion was marked in Lebanon, including the city of Baalbek, where people gathered at a holy shrine to observe the day.

Marking Arba’een in Iraq

Millions of Muslims from across the globe have converged on Iraq's holy City of Karbala to commemorate Arba’een. The occasion marks 40 days since the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the third Shia Imam. The solemn occasion is observed in Iraq today, while it was commemorated in Iran on Thursday. For at least two weeks, pilgrims from different countries walked 80 kilometers from Najaf to Karbala to attend the event. Among them are over three million Iranian nationals. The Arba’een march is one of the largest annual religious congregations in the world. Imam Hossein and a small group of his companions were martyred nearly fourteen centuries ago in the battle of Karbala after they rose up against Yazid, the tyrant caliph of the time.

US-Israeli Gaza genocide

The Israeli military presses ahead with its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, killing and injuring more Palestinians in fresh strikes.  At least 17 Palestinians, including aid seekers, have been killed since dawn. Two of the new victims lost their lives after a neighborhood in Gaza City was bombed. An area in central Khan Yunis was targeted as well. In addition, four more hunger-related deaths were confirmed in a matter of 24 hours. The death toll from the US-Israeli genocide since October 2023 has risen to nearly 61,800, with more than 154,900 others injured.
