A key member of US President Donald Trump’s negotiating team for Gaza ceasefire talks has resigned, blaming the US-Israeli side for the failed talks with the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement.
Bishara Bahbah, who had led the “Arab Americans for Trump” campaign during his re-election bid in 2024, said the US-Israeli side cut the peace talks too soon, even though Hamas was close to agreeing to the deal’s terms.
Meantime, the Tel Aviv regime decided last week to occupy the whole of Gaza and force the Palestinians to either flee their home or face death.
Prior to the implementation of the new phase of the Gaza occupation plot, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff announced that the US is cutting short Gaza ceasefire talks and bringing home its negotiating team from Qatar.
Bahbah announced he will no longer work with the US negotiating team led by Witkoff.
He blamed Witkoff for the failed negotiations, pointing out that the US special envoy to West Asia had ignored the progress made with Hamas and, instead, followed the hardline approach of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Bahbah insisted that the US-Israeli decisions destroyed the chances for a ceasefire.
He added that he plans to continue his mediation efforts independently. “I can achieve more with Hamas if I work freely,” he said.
Despite having no official position in Trump’s Gaza negotiating team, Bahbah reportedly played a key role in securing the release of one of the Israeli captives held by Hamas.
