Scotland’s Glasgow Rangers Football Club’s fans have launched a major campaign to block the recruitment of an Israeli striker to their team, in denunciation of the occupying regime’s long-running genocidal war against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Following rumors of Glasgow Rangers’ interest in signing Israeli footballer Dor Turgeman from Maccabi Tel Aviv, fans are appealing to the club’s CEO, Patrick Stewart, to reject the potential transfer.
According to media reports, the fans of the Light Blues voiced their strong objection to recruiting Israeli athletes who are committing genocide in Gaza.
They condemned the killing of defenseless Palestinian women and children in the blockaded territory.
“Israeli citizens are generally required to undertake military service. If Dor Turgeman did so, he may be guilty of war crimes,” the fans wrote in a letter to Stewart.
“It is crucial that we know if he has served in the [Israeli military] and if he has, it must be immediately disqualifying,” they urged the CEO.
Even further, the letter said, if a deal for Turgeman is pursued, have other players been consulted to see if they would be comfortable with this and how they could play together?
“We don’t want our club to be associated with genocide and racism,” they added. “We therefore ask, again, that you intervene to end any plans to sign this player, for the good of the club.”

According to Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz, seventy percent of Israeli football players are conscripted into the occupation army, which effectively means their hands are stained with the blood of more than 57,800 Palestinians killed since October 2023.
Scottish fans have invariably been great supporters of the Palestinian people, and especially Celtic fans have shown the most support for Palestine in stadiums to rebuke Israeli crimes in Gaza.
At least 57,882 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and over 138,095 individuals injured in the brutal Israeli onslaught on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the besieged coastal territory.
