Suspending cooperation with IAEA
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has promulgated the law suspending the country’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. Pezeshkian gave final approval to the legislation passed by Iran’s parliament last month that mandates the government to suspend cooperation with the UN nuclear agency. The law had passed unanimously and was subsequently approved by Iran’s Guardian Council. The legislation invokes Article 60 of the 1969 Vienna Convention, asserting Iran’s right to suspend treaty obligations under exceptional circumstances. The suspension of cooperation follows the recent military aggression by Israel and the United States targeting Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities. The cooperation will remain suspended until Tehran receives guarantees for the safety of its nuclear sites and scientists.
US-Israel Gaza genocide
Palestinians in Gaza have woken up to yet another deadly day as the Israeli military continues to pound the blockaded territory indiscriminately. In one of the latest strikes, six members of a family were killed after Israeli drones targeted tents housing the displaced in al-Mawasi refugee camp in southern Gaza. A similar attack struck a home in the central city of Deir al-Balah, killing several people. Fatalities were also reported after Israeli warplanes bombed a house in al-Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza city. The town of Jabalia in northern Gaza was also the scene of deadly attacks. The US-Israeli genocide in Gaza began in October 2023. Since then, more than 56,600 have been killed.
Complicity in Gaza genocide
A UN special rapporteur has issued a report, labeling over 60 companies, including US technology firms, as complicit in Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza. The report, filed by Francesca Albanese, says those corporations including Microsoft, Amazon, and Google should be held accountable for enabling and profiting from Israeli crimes. According to Albanese, the companies are involved in the transformation of Israel’s economy of occupation to an economy of genocide. The report also highlights how Israel’s prolonged occupation has become a lucrative testing ground for arms manufacturers and Big Tech companies. The report will be formally presented to the UN Human Rights Council on Thursday.
