Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani will reportedly visit Tehran in the upcoming days amid regional tensions.

Al Thani, who is also Qatar's foreign minister, will discuss issues of mutual interests and major regional developments with Iranian officials, including the new Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to some reports.

The Qatari official will arrive in Tehran on Monday, marking the first official visit since Iran's new government has been formed.

On Wednesday, the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) ended the debate on nominees for the new cabinet and approved all of President Masoud Pezeshkian’s 19 cabinet picks.

Iran and Qatar maintain strong relations and the new Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has vowed to seriously pursue efforts to boost bilateral ties.

The visit comes as Qatar plays a crucial role as a mediator in Gaza truce talks that involves negotiators from the United States, Egypt, the Israeli regime, but not Hamas.

Last Friday, Iran's interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani held a phone conversation with his Qatari counterpart, warning about “the deceit and dishonesty” of the criminal Israeli regime and its most important supporter, the United States.

The Qatari prime minister's visit also comes as Iran has pledged to respond to the Israeli assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran late last month.

On Wednesday, Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations said in a statement that the country will respond to the Israeli assassination in a time and manner that would take the regime "by surprise."

The statement said, “Iran’s response should also avoid a possible negative impact on a possible [Gaza] ceasefire.”

Earlier this month, the mission had likewise said, “We hope that our response will be completed on time and in a way that does not harm the possible ceasefire.”

It had, however, asserted at the same time that the Islamic Republic's right to retaliate had nothing to do with the issue of ongoing talks aimed at hammering out a truce in the Israeli regime’s October-present war on the Gaza Strip which has so far killed over 40,000 Palestinians and injured tens of thousands others.

Ismail Haniyeh was in the Iranian capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Hundreds of thousands of people attended his funeral in Tehran before he was laid to rest in a cemetery in Doha, Qatar.
