Iran's retaliatory military action against Israel contributes to global peace: Analyst

By Alireza Hashemi

Iran's military operation against Israel represents a remarkable contribution to global peace and serves as a deterrent against potential future violations by the regime against diplomatic facilities worldwide, says an analyst.

Reza Sadr al-Hosseini, a Tehran-based strategic affairs analyst, in a conversation with the Press TV website, said Iran's retaliatory actions were a punitive response to the Israeli regime’s serious breach of international law, which could have otherwise set a dangerous precedent in the region.

"In the past two weeks, we have observed a lack of action from the international community and the UN Security Council to hold Israel accountable for its assault on the Iranian diplomatic mission,” he said.

“Without Iran's countermeasures, the security of diplomatic premises globally would be in jeopardy.”

Iran launched a barrage of missiles and drones at military targets in the occupied territories late on Saturday in response to the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1.

Seven Iranian military advisors, including a senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), were assassinated in the attack, which was in breach of the Vienna Convention of 1961.

Dubbed the ‘True Promise’ operation, it was designed to penetrate Israel's air defense systems and was carried out in multiple phases from various directions.

Iranian officials said the unprecedented operation was successful, decimating an Israeli airbase and an intelligence center, and warning both the Israeli regime and its Western backers against resorting to another military measure against the Islamic Republic.

The scale of the attack was unprecedented in several respects. It was not only the largest drone attack in recorded history but also the most extensive drone and missile operation conducted by Iran to date.

It also marked the first time that Iran directly targeted Israeli-occupied territories, a move that has not been undertaken by any nation in nearly five decades.

"This historic operation stands as a pivotal contribution to international peace and security, deterring aggressive actions by Israel, which often occur with the backing of the US and other Western powers,” Hosseini told the Press TV website.

In response to Western critiques urging Iran to exercise restraint and labeling the counterstrike as an unnecessary escalation, Hosseini emphasized Iran's history of measured response to previous provocations, particularly the assassination of Iranian general Mohammad Razi Mousavi.

"Iran has previously shown restraint in the face of Israeli provocations. A response could have been initiated months earlier when Israel’s attack martyred General Mousavi and his colleagues," he explained, referring to an Israeli attack on Iranian military advisors in Syria in late December.

"The West cannot allow its rabid dog to infringe upon diplomatic sanctity and expect Iran to remain passive,” he hastened to add.

Hosseini underscored that Iran's response was measured and it has conveyed clear warnings, both through official channels and indirect means, cautioning the regime as well as the United States against any attempts to target Iran or endanger Iranian citizens.

He emphasized that any transgression by the regime and its cohorts in this regard would be met with a stronger and decisive response.
