New strikes hit Yemen’s strategic port city of Hudaydah as conflict intensifies
A wave of new strikes has targeted the strategic western Yemeni port city of Hudaydah, only hours after the United States launched attacks against targets in Yemen for a second straight day after the Ansarullah resistance movement warned it would retaliate for a series of attacks on its facilities.
A military source allied with the Sana’a-based National Salvation Government told the AFP news agency that a site on the outskirts of Hudaydah, which Ansarullah fighters used to launch a rocket was hit.
The source adding that it was not clear whether the strike came from the sea or the air. A police source confirmed the new strike.
Earlier on Saturday, the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said that Tomahawk missiles were fired from the US Navy’s USS Carney at a radar site run by Yemeni forces.
It described the attack as a “follow-on action” related to the previous day's strikes.
Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network said al-Dailami airbase in the capital Sana’a had been struck in the latest bombardment.
Nasreddin Amer, Deputy Minister of Information in the Sana’a-based administration, said the overnight US strike caused no damage or casualties.
“There were no injuries, no material nor human losses,” Amer said, adding that the Ansarullah would come back with a “strong and effective response”.
Meanwhile, Ansarullah spokesperson Mohammed Abdul-Salam told Reuters news agency the US attack would not deter it from waging attacks on Israeli-owned ships or merchant vessels destined to Israeli ports.
Yemenis have declared their open support for Palestine’s struggle against the Israeli occupation since the regime launched a devastating war on Gaza on October 7 after the territory’s Palestinian resistance movements carried out a surprise retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, against the occupying entity.
The relentless Israeli military campaign against Gaza has killed at least 23,843 people, most of them women and children. Another 60,317 individuals have been wounded.
Reports revealed that Israeli shipping companies have already decided to reroute their vessels in fear of attacks by Yemeni forces.
Yemeni forces have also launched missile and drone attacks on targets in the Israeli-occupied territories after the regime’s aggression on Gaza.
