Satellite pictures have unveiled that a new airstrip is being built on a strategic island in Yemen’s Socotra Archipelago, amid tensions in the Red Sea over Israel’s war on Gaza.

Yemen has been targeting Israeli vessels or those “associated” with the regime in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea since October 7, 2023.

The head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council says the country’s maritime operations in the Red Sea will continue until Israeli atrocities in the Gaza Strip stop, and much-needed aid is allowed into the besieged territory.

The port management said the move was the final option after months of losses and inactivity.
