Pakistan condemns deadly terrorist attack in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan

The Pakistani government on Sunday condemned a deadly terrorist attack on a police station in its neighboring Rask county in Iran’s southeast, which left at least 11 dead and several more injured.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, said in a statement that Pakistan will stand “in solidarity” with Iran following the “tragic” incident.

“Pakistan strongly condemns the terrorist attack at Rask Police HQs in the Southeastern region of Iran, which killed 11 Iranian officials and injured several others,” the statement said.

“We extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the swift recovery of the injured. Pakistan stands in full solidarity with the Government and brotherly people of Iran in this hour of unspeakable tragedy,” it added.

The statement highlighted that terrorism is a “threat” to regional and global peace and called for “bilateral and regional cooperation” to counter it.

The Pakistani-based terror group Jaish ul-Adl has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack that took place on Friday in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

According to Majid Mirahmadi, the deputy interior minister for security and police affairs, members of the terrorist outfit had attacked the police building from several directions and later ambushed the reinforcements that were deployed to the headquarters as backup.

Mirahmadi said two of the terrorists were killed and one of them was injured and arrested in hours-long clashes, while the rest of the outfit managed to flee.

The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemned the vicious terrorist operation, reiterating its unwavering commitment to ensuring that those responsible will be brought to justice.

In a statement on Friday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi ordered swift efforts to identify the perpetrators of the terrorist attack.

Raeisi also offered his condolences to the Iranian nation and especially the families of “devoted” police forces who fell victim to the attack terrorist attack.

“The powerful security and law enforcement forces must identify the perpetrators and the masterminds of this heinous crime as quickly as possible so that they can be punished for their disgraceful act,” the statement said.

The president blamed the “stooges of the world arrogance” for what he called a “cowardly and indiscriminate” terror attack.
