The BRICS bloc of emerging economies has agreed to admit several new members including Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
The move is seen in line with the push to reshuffle a world order perceived by many independent countries as outdated. Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi, whose country is set to join BRICS in January 2024 believes new-emerging blocs such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can play a pivotal role in confronting unilateralism.
