Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon have killed four people, including a 3-year-old child, in a fresh violation of the 2024 ceasefire agreement.
The Lebanese Health Ministry said three of the victims died when an Israeli strike hit a vehicle in Yanooh town, Tyre district, on Monday.
According to the statement, another civilian was shot dead by Israeli forces in the town of Aita al-Shaab in the Bint Jbeil district.
Meanwhile, two individuals were targeted with sound bombs from an Israeli drone while at the Aita al-Shaab cemetery.
Israeli forces also arrested Atwi Atwi, the leader of the Islamic Group, at his home in al-Habbariyeh town in the Arqoub region.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam decried the abduction as “a blatant attack on the country's sovereignty”, and tasked Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji with taking immediate action and following up on the case with the United Nations.
Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire agreement that took effect on November 27, 2024. Under the deal, Tel Aviv was required to withdraw fully from the Lebanese territory—but has kept forces stationed at five sites, in clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the terms of the November 2024 agreement.
Since the implementation of the ceasefire, Israel has violated the truce agreement multiple times through repeated assaults on Lebanese territory.
Lebanese authorities have warned that the regime’s violations of the ceasefire threaten national stability.
