French judicial crackdown

The French judicial system is working almost around the clock to put hundreds of arrested protesters behind bars.

The protesters poured into the streets after the police killing of Nahel Merzouk, a 17-year-old boy of Moroccan and Algerian descent. Many of them are being funneled through hasty trials, known as "immediate appearance." Lawyers often have just 30 minutes to prepare a defense bill and cases often end in prison time.
