The United States has dispatched a large convoy of trucks carrying arms and logistic supplies to Syria’s oil-rich northeastern province of Hasakah from northern Iraq, as Washington steps up attempts to further plunder oil reserves and natural resources in the Arab nation.

Syria’s official news agency SANA, citing local sources, reported that a US military convoy of 30 trucks and tankers, loaded with weapons, ammunition, and logistic materials, entered al-Shaddadi town on Saturday.

The sources added that the convoy was escorted by US-sponsored and Kurdish-led militants affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

They noted that the military vehicles headed towards the provincial capital city of Hasakah after offloading their cargo, which included medium caliber weapon systems, anti-armor missiles, modern communication and jamming systems as well as munitions intended for SDF militants.

The US military has stationed forces and equipment in northeastern Syria, with the Pentagon claiming the deployment is aimed at preventing the oilfields in the area from falling into the hands of Daesh terrorists.

Damascus, however, maintains that the unauthorized US deployment is aimed at plundering the country’s rich mineral resources.

Back on July 18, Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian president’s special representative for the Middle East and Africa, sternly criticized the persisting illegal presence of US military forces in Syria, demanding that the Pentagon end its illegitimate occupation of the Arab nation’s energy- and mineral-rich regions.

“Washington uses the pretext of combating terrorism to be present east of the Euphrates in economically important areas, where crude oil and strategic natural reserves are abundant,” he said at the time.

He underscored that the presence of US troops at the al-Tanf area in southern Syria, which marks a flagrant violation of the country’s sovereignty and its territorial integrity.

Bogdanov also censured US support in the terror-ravaged country for the anti-Damascus SDF militants in northern Syria.
