Slamming desecration of Qur’an

Pakistanis have held more rallies to vent anger at the recent desecration of the holy Qur’an in Sweden. Protesters gathered in the cities of Peshawar and Muzaffarabad to condemn the burning of the Qur’an in Stockholm and the official authorization of the blasphemous act. The new protests came a day after thousands marched toward the Swedish embassy in the capital Islamabad, with placards in their hands reading “Boycott Sweden”. They demanded that the government sever ties with Stockholm and expel its ambassador. They also urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to act against the blasphemous act and focus on promoting unity among Muslim countries. Last Wednesday, a man tore up the pages and burn a copy of the holy book outside Stockholm’s central mosque. Police had granted permission for the planned desecration. The sacrilegious act triggered condemnations and outrage across the Muslim world.
