Iran's President Ebrahim Raeisi has highlighted the huge potentials of the Islamic Republic and Qatar to further expand bilateral, regional and international cooperation.

“Iran and Qatar, through their shared outlooks, possess great capacities for expanding bilateral, regional and international cooperation with each other,” President Raeisi said during a phone conversation with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Tuesday while expressing his appreciation for the emir's efforts in advancing joint programs and agreements with Tehran.

The Iranian president went on to add that the Islamic Republic has always underlined the significance of upgrading ties with Qatar, pointing out that Tehran considers broadening of bilateral cooperation with Doha a prelude to strengthening regional and international cooperation as much as possible.

Sheikh Tamim, for his part, congratulated President Raiesi and the Iranian nation on the occasion of the upcoming Eid al-Adha, marking the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, and further declared Qatar's readiness to boost its economic cooperation and investments in Iran.

“Considering the good discussions and consultations we have held in the development of relations, we are prepared to hold a joint commission for economic cooperation in the near future,” he said.

The development followed Doha's announcement of releasing seven Iranians from prisons in Qatar and their return home.

Since its inauguration, the Raeisi administration has been diligently pursuing a good-neighborliness policy to cement ties with the nations in the region.

Iran and Qatar have inked 14 major economic cooperation agreements, including a deal on cancelling visa requirements for passengers travelling between the two countries. The agreements were signed during President Raeisi’s visit to Doha in February 2022.

Iran and Qatar have enjoyed booming economic and political ties since mid-2017 when Iran offered its full support for Qatar when the Arab country came under a blockade by Saudi Arabia and several other countries in the region.

The two countries share the world’s largest gas reserve in the Persian Gulf. Collective output from the field has reached nearly 1.4 billion cubic meters per day in recent years, according to figures provided by the governments of Iran and Qatar.
