Iran missile power

Iran has unveiled a new 4th-generation ballistic missile on the anniversary of the liberation of the city of Khorramshahr during Iraq’s imposed war on the Islamic Republic. Iran’s defense ministry says the missile’s high-tech engine is operated with liquid fuel. The velocity is eight-mach in air and 16 in outer space. The new missile can be guided in mid-flight, which contributes to its precision. Iran’s defense minister said in the unveiling ceremony that the new missile is capable of carrying various warheads.

Nord Stream blast probe

Russia summons the ambassadors of Germany, Sweden and Denmark amid diplomatic tensions over a probe into last year’s Nord Stream gas pipelines blast. The ministry protested over failure to provide the results of an investigation into an explosion in the Nord Stream pipelines. Relations between the West and Russia soured since the European Union and the United States backed Ukraine in the war with Russia. The West also supported sanctions against Russia.

Horn of Africa crisis

The UN chief has warned that the Horn of Africa is in dire need of help, as the world body pledges 2.4bn dollars in humanitarian assistance for the region. The sum raised by the UN is considerably less than the 7bn dollar it says is needed to prevent a worst-case scenario in the Horn of Africa. According to the UN, crises brought on by drought, displacement and famine have put the lives of 43mn people in danger. People across Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya are in urgent need of lifesaving support, while the UN chief says fighting in Sudan is radiating instability across the region. UN officials blame climate change for drought and growing hunger-related deaths in Africa.
