Cancel Culture

On January 10, Pope Francis issued a warning against so-called cancel culture, a practice to ostracize people for making remarks that are considered to be 'politically incorrect'.

The pope pointed out, “Cancel culture is invading many circles and public institutions. As a result, agendas are increasingly dictated by a mindset that rejects the natural foundations of humanity and the cultural roots that constitute the identity of many people.”

On the other hand, the proponents of cancel culture say this is a tool of social justice in combating public figures with far-reaching influence. Given all its pros and cons, cancel culture seems to have spun out of control when it comes to the trans community; in fact, it has become a new form of mob intimidation to ruin the career of anyone who dares to challenge the community's narrative on gender and sexuality.

Any minor criticism or joke targeting the community is responded with a smear campaign and a barrage of insults and intimation. The case of J. K. Rowling is a telling example.
