A young Palestinian has been killed by Israeli troops in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

In the latest act of aggression by Israeli soldiers, 33-year-old Ahmad Mohammad Atatrah was shot and killed while he was trying to cross through the Rihan military checkpoint by a bike. That is according to Tareq Qabaha, the mayor of Tura al-Gharbiya village, who spoke with the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.

Atatrah was left bleeding until he succumbed to his wounds, Qabaha said. Medics were denied access to the shooting scene, he added.

Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli military raided the Balata refugee camp near the city of Nablus, sparking a firefight that killed two Palestinians. The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the two as 32-year-old Said Mesha and 19-year-old Adnan Araj. At least three other Palestinians were wounded in the raid.

Local sources said a large number of Israeli troops encircled a house in Balata and traded fire with resistance fighters before other Israeli military reinforcements stormed the area. Israeli forces fired projectiles at the house, closed the camp’s entrances and fired stun grenades at ambulances as they were trying to evacuate wounded citizens.

Later, Israeli forces withdrew from the camp after resistance fighters reportedly managed to escape from the surrounded house.

Over the past months, Israel has ramped up attacks on Palestinian towns and cities throughout the occupied territories. As a result of these attacks, dozens of Palestinians have lost their lives and many others have been arrested.

Most of the raids have been into the cities of Nablus and Jenin, where Israeli forces have been trying to stifle a growing Palestinian resistance against occupation.
