Iran-India relations
Iran and India have reaffirmed their commitment to counter terrorism in all shapes and forms to create peace, stability and security in the region. The pledge was made in a joint statement by the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani and his Indian counterpart, Ajit Doval, in Tehran. The statement also called for greater joint efforts with Russia and other countries in Central Asia and the Caucuses to promote transportation routes such as the International North-South Transport Corridor. Earlier, Doval also met with the Iranian president. Ebrahim Raeisi said a new world order is taking shape and regional and international bodies such as the BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can play an effective role in this area. He called for the enhancement of Iran-India ties to influence developments in the new world order.
Israel Syria attack
Israel has carried out another missile strike on Syria, targeting Aleppo International Airport and several other positions in the vicinity of the northern city. The Syrian Defense Ministry says a soldier was killed. Seven other people, including two civilians, were injured. The strike put the airport, which has been a key channel for the flow of aid into Syria after a recent deadly earthquake, out of service. Israel carries out frequent missile attacks on targets in Syria. Damascus has repeatedly complained to the UN Security Council, urging serious action against Tel Aviv’s crimes. The calls have, however, fallen on deaf ears. Syria has vowed a crushing response to such acts of aggression in due time.
Plight of US nurses
US nursing workforce continues to face well-being challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. A survey shows that 30 percent of the nurses in the country are considering leaving their profession due to work fatigue. The figure is up seven-percent compared to 2021, when the wave of resignations triggered by the pandemic began. The study also showed that 69 percent of nurses seek increased salaries and 63 percent of them seek a safer work environment to reduce their stress. Staff shortage in US hospitals has been an issue for a couple of years, but hit a peak early last year. The staffing crisis drove up costs of hospital operators, while boosting profits of medical staffing providers.
