Eid al-Fitr is one the most important religious holidays celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan and falls on the first day of the lunar month of Shawal in the Islamic calendar based on when the new moon is sighted by local religious authorities.

In Iran, Saturday was announced Eid al-Fitr with millions of Iranians celebrating Eid al-Fitr.

In the capital, millions flocked to Tehran’s Grand Mosalla to celebrate the Eid.

An important part of Eid al-Fitr celebration is a special prayer that is performed in congregation in the open air. In the Iranian capital Tehran, Imam Khomeini’s Grand Mosalla once again hosted the prayers after a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei led the prayers.

The presence of the younger generation and first-time fasters was impressive. For those reading between the lines, this huge presence had a strong message.

Participants in Eid al-Fitr prayers also signed a petition calling for Islamic moral values to be observed, including hijab, which is considered the embodiment of modesty, virtue and respect for women.
