Access to broadband internet in Iran rose 6.11% in 2022: CRA

Iran’s telecoms regulator says access to broadband internet rose by 6.11% in the country last year.

Access to broadband internet in Iran rose by 6.11% in the year to December 21, 2022, according to latest figures released by the country’s telecoms regulator (CRA).

CRA figures cited in a Tuesday report by the official IRNA news agency showed that the number of internet subscribers in Iran with access to broadband services had increased to nearly 113.5 million in the year to late December.

Access to mobile broadband rose to over 102.3 million from nearly 95.7 million reported at the end of 2021, showed the figures.

However, the data showed that the number of fixed broadband users in Iran remained almost flat year on year in December 2022 at just over 11 million.  

Broadband penetration rate in Iran reached nearly 135%, according to figures by the Communication Regulatory Authority which indicated that the country had still a poor record on fixed broadband with a penetration rate of only 13.17%.

The total number of mobile phone subscribers in Iran increased by more than 5.5 million to nearly 145.7 million in year to December 2022 with CRA putting the mobile penetration rate in the country at 173.3%.

The CRA figures showed the number of landline connections in Iran was nearly flat year on year in December at over 29 million.
