US-China war plan leak ‘tip of the iceberg’: American journalist

An American journalist and political commentator said the United States is probably planning a war with China and the plan leaked by a four-star US Air Force general could be just the “tip of the iceberg.”

Don DeBar, a New York-based  radio host, told Press TV on Saturday that, "as scary as the leaked plans for war with China might be, they are likely just the tip of the iceberg, with a full-scale war scenario being quite possible."

General Mike Minihan, head of Air Mobility Command, sent a memo on Friday to the officers he commands that predicts the United States will be at war with China in two years and tells them to get ready to prep by firing "a clip" at a target, and "aim for the head,"  NBC News reported.

Gen. Minihan said, “I hope I am wrong. My gut tells me will fight in 2025.”

The signed memo is addressed to all air wing commanders in Air Mobility Command and other Air Force operational commanders, directing all personnel to “fire a clip into a 7-meter target with the full understanding that unrepentant lethality matters most. Aim for the head.”

Minihan’s Air Mobility Command has nearly 50,000 service members and nearly 500 planes and is responsible for transport and refueling.

“This is scary but it's just a snapshot and it's one that senior officials are walking away from,” DeBar told Press TV.

“It's impossible for us to know how representative this is of the conversation and/or instruction set being passed around the military command. But it would be interesting to get a complete picture of what the military is anticipating based upon what the military is being told by those to whom it reports, ostensibly the executive branch,” he noted.

“That would give us a picture of what's actually happening - knowing what they are planning to do, and what they anticipate will develop in relations between China and the US and the international scene in general. I have a sense, watching what's going on in Europe, it would be even more frightening than this,” he stated.

Tensions between the US and China over the self-ruled island intensified following a provocative visit there in August by Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the US House of Representatives. It prompted large-scale Chinese military drills around the island territory as well as a declaration by US President Joe Biden to defend Taiwan.

Her visit infuriated China, which has sovereignty over the self-ruled Chinese Taipei and has publicly stated that it may take it by force one day, if necessary.

Analyst: US, China relations headed to 'further deterioration'

Relations between the US and China are headed to "further deterioration", an analyst says.

Under the “one China” policy, nearly all countries across the globe, the US included, recognize Beijing’s sovereignty over Chinese Taipei. 

Washington, however, engaged in direct contact with the secessionist government in Taipei, in violation of its own stated policy. The US also supplies Taipei with massive amounts of armaments.
