Four people, including a seven-year-old girl, have been injured in a shooting incident near a church in London where a funeral was taking place, British police have reported.

Three women, aged 48, 54, and 41, were taken to the hospital along with the young girl following Saturday’s incident, with the 48-year-old suffering potentially life-changing injuries.

"An urgent investigation is underway and details of the incident are still emerging. At this early stage there have been no arrests," London police said.

"The incident took place in the vicinity of a church where a funeral was taking place. Initial inquiries suggest the shots were fired from a moving vehicle which was then driven away from the scene," the metropolitan police added.

In a statement released on Twitter, Camden police said they now had a “significant police presence” in the area, and that an investigation was underway.

No arrests have been made yet.

A witness, who claimed to be inside the church at the time of the shooting, described hiding amid the horror.

"It was chaos. It was horrible,” she told reporters, adding that "No one knew if it was a bomb or gunman. We were looking for places to hide.”

"We all just snuggled into corners where we could. We left after about 10 minutes, I did not dare [leave before]," she said in a panic.

Another witness at the scene took the Twitter to describe the chaos, saying that 6 ambulances and 12 police cars were at the scene of the incident after the shooting.

"Air ambulance and police helicopter [are] circling the area! The area has been #cordonedoff," the witness wrote.
