Iran's Army unveils high-tech UAVs in naval exercise

It's the second day of massive naval maneuvers conducted by the Iranian Army. Codenamed Zolfaqar, the drills cover over a 3-million square kilometer area, stretching from the Strait of Hormuz all the way to the Sea of Oman and north of the Indian Ocean.
During the second phase of the military exercise, domestically-made combat drones such as Arash and Bavar flew from the Sahand destroyer to hit mock enemy targets using the homegrown Qaem smart bombs.
Made by Iran's Armed Forces, Qaem is a guided bomb with pinpoint accuracy of less than half a meter.
Equipped with an infrared seeker, the precision-guided bomb can engage with fixed and moving targets both at night and during the day.
Iran's military sector has been one of the industries that has been subject to decades-long sanctions imposed by the West.
The Army says this has prompted Iran to keep its defense industry afloat by drawing on local expertise.
Military officials say today Iran produces over 80 percent of its needed equipment on its own. They say the drills help Iran's naval forces to hone their skills in real-time operations. The ultimate goal, they say, is to ensure peace and stability in regional waters, which are constantly exposed to extraterritorial threats.
