JCPOA revival efforts

Iran is calling on the US to choose diplomacy over pressure, intimidation and confrontation if it really wants the revival of the 2015 deal, known as the JCPOA. Iran’s permanent ambassador to the UN says the US must show real political will and agree to completely fulfill its obligations under the agreement. Amir Saeed Iravani emphasized Iran's commitment to dialogue and diplomacy. He said Iran is ready to resume the Vienna talks on the revival of the JCPOA and even arrange a ministerial meeting as soon as possible to declare its restoration. The Iranian official stressed that the current standoff is a direct result of the US unilateral withdrawal from the deal in 2018. Iran’s foreign minister has said that a summit taking place this week in Jordan will be a good opportunity to complete the JCPOA revival negotiations.

Israeli attack on Syria

The Israeli regime has launched a missile attack on the Syrian capital, Damascus, in a new act of aggression against the Arab country. Military sources say Syrian air defenses shot down most of the Israeli missiles. The sources added that the attack resulted in the injury of two soldiers, but caused no loss of life. The missiles were fired from the northeast of Lake Tiberias in the occupied territories in the early hours of Tuesday. Israel frequently launches missile attacks on Syria. Damascus has repeatedly complained to the UN over the Israeli violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging the UN Security Council to take action. The calls have, however, fallen on deaf ears.

UK paramedics strike

Britain is arranging for its military to replace striking ambulance drivers as walkouts enter a potentially more dangerous phase in the country. Authorities have failed to reach an agreement with over 10,000 paramedics and call handlers over pay. The country’s ambulance drivers, call handlers and support staff will walk out on Wednesday as the country’s economy slides into recession. People in Britain are grappling with soaring inflation and rising consumer prices. The increasing cost of food and energy has caused anger among workers in various public and private sectors, pushing them to stage walkouts.
