A spokesman for Palestine Resistance Committees (PRC) has expressed condolences to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and the Iranian nation for the martyrdom of 15 people in the recent terrorist attack in Shiraz.

“This terror attack will not defeat Iran, which supports the resistance with all its might,” said PRC’s spokesman Abu Mojahid during an interview with the Lebanon-based Al-Mayadeen TV channel on Saturday, adding, “We continue to stand on the side of Iran.”

The remarks followed the killing of 15 pilgrims, including a woman and two children, and wounding of 40 others by a lone Daesh-affiliated terrorist that indiscriminately targeted worshipers with a machine gun at a sacred shrine in the southwestern city of Shiraz on Wednesday.

He said that “the enemy is aiming to destabilize the entire region through the [indiscriminate] killing of children and innocent people,” adding, “What took place in recent days is reflective of the surging power of the resistance axis across the board.”

“Iran is the elder brother of the resistance axis,” Mojahid further underlined, insisting that "such efforts by the enemy will never break the resolve of Iran and the resistance axis.”

The police commander of Fars province said the gunman opened fire on pilgrims inside the shrine and was eventually wounded and taken into custody by security officers.

Authorities described the terrorist as a foreign national. Shortly after the incident, Daesh terror group claimed responsibility for the massacre.

CCTV footage released by local authorities showed the terrorist making his way inside the shrine after hiding an assault rifle in a bag and opening fire at worshipers who tried to flee and hide in corridors.

Condemnations poured in from both inside and outside the Islamic Republic of Iran following the incident.

Ayatollah Khamenei offered his condolences to the Iranian nation shortly after the terror act, vowing that the perpetrators of the “outrageous” crime will definitely face punishment.

The Leader also called on security agencies, the Judiciary branch, thinkers, activists, and the entire nation to act in unison to confront "the current" that is disregarding and disrespecting people’s lives, security, and sanctities.

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi also vowed that the Islamic Republic would deliver a crushing response to those who were behind the bloodshed, emphasizing that the country’s security and law enforcement forces, having identified the root causes of this heinous crime, “will deliver a decisive response to its architects and operatives, which will make them regret their act.”
